Camp Fire USA West Michigan Council After-School Program
Our after-school programs are designed to fill the gap between the end of a child's school day and the end of a parent's or caretaker's work day. Children feeling lonely or bored during out-of-school hours may engage in unproductive destructive or negative behaviors. Camp Fire USA After-school gives children a safe alternative to potentially risky activity - but the kids just think it's fun!
Camp Fire will manage 11 after-school programs during the 2009-10 school year. Ten of these programs are part of The Loop (L), the after-school initiative within Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Activities:
The after-school program begins each day with an academic component where boys and girls practice reading and math, and get help with homework. Afterwards, kids participate in a variety of activities, such as dance, art, poetry, journals, music, drama club, service-learning and field trips. Opportunities may vary by site but are similar in nature.
The elementary school-based and Camelot Woods programs are for children and youth ages 5 - 12. The program at M.L. King Jr. Leadership Academy is for youth ages 5 - 14. The middle school program is for 12-14 year olds attending Burton Middle School.
Each Camp Fire USA After-school program was designed to fit the needs of the neighborhood it would serve. As a result, our programs involve community residents, families and youth and respond to the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the boys and girls we serve.
