Camp Fire USA and Gamma Phi Beta, an international women’s sorority, have collaborated
to further the mission of Camp Fire USA and provide indispensable service to youth
in various communities. Specifically Camp Fire USA West Michigan Council, is thankful for
the partnership with Gamma Phi Beta at Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan
and their willingness to contribute time and effort to our after-school and summer programs. This relationship continues to be an exciting opportunity for Camp Fire USA West Michigan Council! Gamma Phi Beta Lansing Chapter, which has a mission of intellectual growth, individual worth, and service to humanity, has been diligent in contributing to the many events and needs of Camp Fire USA, including Absolutely Incredible Kid Day. Most recently, they did a service project and created first aid kits for all of our school sites. Thank You Gamma Phi Beta!! |

School Spotlight: Covell Elementary |

This Spring, Camp Fire’s after-school program at Covell Elementary taught children the importance of diversity and how their differences can all work together. These lessons culminated with a poem entitled “A Box of Crayons”. Several students, dressed as crayons, recited the poem for the entire after-school program at Covell. The poem talks about different colors [crayons] learning to get along, how to work together and appreciating their differences. The boys and girls also took time to draw a crayon-shaped picture of themselves including symbols that showed their interests. The children then put their posters up for everyone to not only see how special they are, but also how similar they are. The students also performed this poem at the Grand Rapids Public Schools Collaborative Youth Fair and earned 2nd place. The final line of the poem truly represents this great project: “We are a box of crayons each one of us unique. But when we get together the picture is complete.” | |
