YET ProgramThe YET (Youth Education for Tomorrow) program is a collaborative effort of the Heart of West Michigan United Way, Grand Rapids Public Schools and Public/Private Ventures. We are coordinating this new program at Sibley Elementary. We hope to have additional YET program sites. At Sibley Elementary, the YET program is helping over 20 children that are behind a grade level or more in reading. The kids begin their 90 minute session listening to a story, then proceeding to read on their own with the help of volunteers. The kids participate in journaling, crafts, and games; all created with the goal of furthering their reading capabilities. If you would like to volunteer in this program. Please contact, Carolyn at carolyn.guyton@campfirewmc.org or (616)9492500 ext. 31 |

Absolutely Incredible Kid DayAbsolutely Incredible Kid Day is an annual letterwriting campaign designed to build self esteem in our youth. Celebrated each year on the third Thursday of March 18, 2010 Absolutely Incredible Kid Day (AIKD) is a call to action asking adults to write letters of love, encouragement and inspiration to the special kids in their lives.Locally, Camp Fire USA celebrates AIKD in two ways: by encouraging adults in our community to write letters to the children in their lives and the community; and by asking people at local businesses, colleges and organizations to write letters for elementary students in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Visit our website to download letterhead and letterwriting tips or contact Melinda at melinda.young@campfireusawmc.org for more information on how you can get involved. |
